While you'all wait for a Warship- took a putt out to Bayview today, here's a pic of the sign for the facility ( took from distance, there's whole lotta no cameras signs in front), and another of the Lake from just next to the facility, with the Green Monarch Mts across the Lake. Kinda funny thinking about a Navy Facility 500 miles from the ocean, but that lake is way deep, they test deep water submersible technology there.
And here is a funny story, that probably anybody who has been in the military can relate too. This is not the first Navy base on the Lake. back during WWII, the Navy built 2 new bases in the Western US after Pearl Harbor, one in San Diego, and the other in Bayview,Idaho: Farragut Naval Training Station. They wanted another secure base that the Japanese would be unable to bomb.
Anyways, the blueprints for the buildings got mixed up, the ones for Idaho got sent to San Diego, and Farragut got the ones for San Diego,uh huh. Someone must have wondered why a base in Sunny Socal was getting Swiss Chalet style roofs, while a base in country that could get upwards of 8' of snow was getting flat roofs
. Did keep the recruits busy in the Winter time shoveling the roofs off, though. Remember being told one collapsed before anyone figured it out.
