Another Engine Isolator/"Mount" Shim Thread (How I Did It)

i would replace that mount, it look's like you have alrady shaved the top off.
then if it need's shimming.
i would imagine the rear mount is in similiar condition, after all they work inconjunction with each other.
i have been keep a eye on mine, 12k, still has the factory 30 thou gap. no vibe's other than the classic front end vibe's.
grumpy.
Mounts just suck. Plus the oil filter is right above the rubber mounts so when you change your oil it gets on the rubber an as we all know oil breaks down rubber causing a longevity problem with mount

Mines a 2010 manufactured in 03/10. I took delivery in 05/10 and it now had 7500 miles on it. (Just to give you an idea of age/condition).
Iv never trimmed that mount..
And all I know is that it was a noticible and highly annoying vibration and a shim made it subside.
whats up with all you twin cam guys having to shim your front engine mounts? My evo runs nearly vibe free at any speed and have never heard a problem with any of the other evo's.I'm almost wondering if the twin cam frames are weak right there and engine vibes are bending that crossmember and pushing it foward and streching out the mount or the mounts just suck.
Yep... crappy mounts..
Also.. alot of TrueTrack advocates say that swingarm instability contributes alot to the premature wear of the mounts kinda compounding the issue. *shrug*
still it look's cactus.
mine, build july 10' delivery sept 10'
12k
sry, look's like it had been trimmed, i guess it just worn out.
grumpy.
also checked to see if i had f2 stamped on the mount, yes , i do.
i wonder, bad batch of mount's. initial factory/pre-delivery set up of the bike bad?

Your probably right about it being wore out.
My question is: is the angle at which the engine sits after its shimmed detrimental to any other drive train parts? Like am i going to wear a shaft or a bearing out because i changed an angle????
I will describe my situation as best as I can. Never under moderate to heavy acceleration would it happen. The times I noticed it most were in 5th and 6th at around 55-65 mph in all type of scenarios. Pulling a hill, slightly. Accelerating slightly on level ground youd feel it the most. I ride with only one hand a lot and I noticed it would make an audible rattle on my clutch lever and make my mirror shake so much it was unusable when It would do the vibration in question, hope this helps?
If you are trying to accelerate in 6th at 55-65 hell yes it will vibrate especially up a hill.
I am also feeling an increase in "Vibration" on my FatBob i know the word vibration is contensious on a Harley but it's as if the motor is coupling more to the frame.
After reading motor-mount threads on the forum i've been measuring the gap between the top of the rubber on the mount & the frame member. When the bike was new the gap was maybe an 1/8th" but after 2.5K it looks like the mount has settled & the rubber is touching the metal of the frame,i'm going to trim the rubber as described in another thread to get back the clearence & see how the bike feels then.
I did the shim mod on my last Dyna but didn't feel any difference,& only read about shaving the rubber after I sold it.
