Default Fuel filter question / Tank Lift

When installing tank lifts its a given that you loose some tank capacity due to the orientation of the pump assembly and intake. ..

I cant currently find any pics of how the filter attaches to the pump but shouldnt it be possible to use a piece of fuel line in between the pump and filter to extend the intake closer toward the rear of the tank so that you can get to all or atleast more of the fuel?

More or less this type of business (mock up):

They are both secured inside the tank, so no you can't just add hose to extend it. The unit is too tall to go much further back in the tank as well.
You are only talking a cup or 2, not worth what it would take in my opinion.

Around town it's no big deal, for road trips I picked up one of these (2 liters) so I do not have to worry about it...as much...

No, I carry mine in my tourpak or bags depending how I set the bike up.
I thought about using a clamp for a fire extinguisher, but figured this was easier.
A water bottle pocket on bags should work too.
