I just bought a 2008 low rider. Just turned over 12,000 miles. The last Harley I owned was and older Superglide. I sold it in 89 and haven't had a Harley since. I bought a new Yamaha Road Star in 2000 when I started back riding. I sold it and bought the Harley.
I am having some issues with the Low Rider. It has slip on mufflers with the baffles in them and not a stock air fiter. In between shifts at certain rpms I get a popping sound and a few times when I have been riding in town and doing a lot of idleing it goes to running on one cyllinder. I can't rev it up a couple of times and it goes back to idleing ok. I think it is running lean but not sure. I put a new set of plugs in it and the plugs had a brownish color to them. I am going to try and get ahold of the owner befroe me and see if he can give me any information on what had been done to the motor.
I have been reading some on the forums and I didn't realize all this fuel injection stuff was so technical. I surley don't want to hurt the motor so I need to do whatever is necessary. Does what I am describing sound like something needs to be looked at? Thanks

your fuel injected engine has a cooling feature that shuts spark off to the rear cylinder when idling reaches a certain temp, so this is normal and helpful. brownish spark plugs are good so long as theyre not oily wet. white = lean, dark brown = rich, black = oil contamination. if the popping sound is coming out of the exhaust on engine decel then the efi is a little lean at closed throttle settings, also very common with after market filter and no fuel tuner. there are several threads on the forum that have tons of info in those. sounds like its all good so get out and enjoy that new ride.
Some threads and publications say that the 08's with O2 sensors can adjust the fuel mix automatically. The plugs are a little brown and not showing white so the decel pop could be characteristic of your pipes/mufflers. Enjoy your Lowrider. Welcome to the forum.
Thanks for the information. I talked to one of my buddies and told me about the rear cyclinder shutting off at a certain temp. I believe that is what was happening on that part. I probably will still have things checked. Thanks for the help.
