I had my bike tuned and it worked great for a couple days then the decel popping started getting worse and worse and the bike didn't seem to run as well as it did,so I called the dealer and made another appointment for a retune, biked worked better and I was happy again, they also charged me full rate and time spent on the tune. Now the bike is doing the same thing again, decel popping is not as bad as before but the gurrling and loud rummbling is not what I want to hear.I called another dealer and found out that they have a dyno and are pretty dam good at it too,my dealer never told me that there was a dyno near me,probley didn't want to see me go there and give them some business,I guess.
Anyways, should my dealer have given me a break on the second tune? The tech even said to me that he didn't know why it didn't stick the first time,he did tell me that he was experimenting with the smart tune feature and was talking to Harley techs about tunning, red flag there.
I should aslo mention that my wifes bike was tuned last fall, twice before it was working good and for some reason, maybe after sitting all winter her bike had to be retuned for a 3rd time in less than a year.
Needless to say,I'm bitting the bullet and have an appointment on June 19th at 9am to have my bike dynoed by professionals,I can't wait to see how my bike will run after a dyno tune.
That's what I thought and so decided NOT to take it back to my dealer, whom we really like and will still support, and stop wasting money,I've paid for 5 tunes altogether and finally said to hell with it,a dyno tune it will be.
A dyno is the only way to properly tune a bike, or car for that matter. I would've walked when I realized they didn't have a dyno in the shop. And yes, I agree that the second visit should've been no charge.
On a side note, the shop that tunes my Subaru on the dyno does tell you up front that if the tune needs to be tweaked later that there will be a charge (half price).
It depends of if the tune didn't work at all or if it needed to be tweaked.
Sounds like you need to call Fuel Moto and get a Power Commander 5 with the tune already loaded in. Even better is when you get it along with the autotune.
Decel pop doesn't hurt ****...as you are not "under load" when it is lean.
I have a PC-5 with autotune from Fuelmoto and they are the BEST. So, I am not speaking out of my ***, but from EXPERIENCE. they are a foum supporter, so go talk to them.
A good dealer shouldn't cut you a break for work they did, when the job they did only worked for 2 days. They needed to NOT charge you and get it done right. But like said above, if they were trying to tune your bike statically, no dyno, it's taking a shot in the dark. No wonder it was tuned 5 times. It's time to try something else.
