Default On start, sputtering / backfire? Help!

I'm in need of some good advice. I recently bought a 94 Dyna Glide and the past 4 rides have been experiencing this problem.
On cold start
Pull choke, pull throttle a few times, start and let run for good 5-7 minutes with choke full open.
When I take out on the road the engine starts running real choppy. Sounds like its hitting, hitting, hitting then backfire, hitting hitting hitting then backfire.... Then after a couple miles it runs great!
I'm a little lost and would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,

1st I would either try leaving the choke in either longer or pushing it back in sooner to see if that helps. Also try pulling it out 3/4 or 1/2 way out instead of all the way out. Every bike is different just guessing here.

I have a '98 and unless the engine is real nice a and warm it will do that. I usually let mine warm up at least 10 minutes or until the top of the head is real warm to the touch. I live on the gulf coast so it's pretty warm in the mornings, the cooler it is outside the longer it will take. You gotta love a carb'd engine.

Yeah, you are explaining a cold lean condition. My scoot used to take forever to warm up and smooth out, the Mikuni & a proper tune with the build fixed that, choke it 1/2 way out for a minute tops, then on my way. Take it easy for the first few miles then I ride as normal.

Might need to fatten up your idle air mixture as well

Thanks guys! I will try tonight when I get home. Definitely seems like I'm choking to much / to much gas when starting.

I just changed out the stock 45 jets in the carb to 46's, no more choke needed. Turns out the guy I bought it from didn't think about the new pipes leaning it out a bit.
