Mine is o-ring. I would just re-use it. I have a bunch of spares because they come with the o-ring oil changing kits that Harley sells. I do change the drain plug o-rings everytime but I have kept the stock derby o-ring since the bike was new and no leaks.

Gaskets are so cheap to buy so I say why take the chance ,buy a new gasket-just my 2 cents

any other tip's? I read to tip the bike away from the derby side..Guess I can have a buddy hold it for a minute??..

That will work or just put a 2x4 under the kickstand if you are by yourself.

As long as bike is standing up near-level, nothing should come out when taking the derby cover off.

Well, he'd have to hold it for more than a minute! Best tip....buy a Harbor Freight bike stand/wheel chock for $39.99. You won't be sorry. Does everything the $200 Condor chock does. Makes it a so much easier for cleaning and maintenance than a bike on a sidestand.

I just changed my derby cover and also changed the gasket. only about 8 bucks from the dealer

It's not a pressurized system. Follow the bolt patter torque sequence and torque specs and you won't have any issues reusing a gasket.

its 5 screws, id say a minuet was not far off the mark....
