Good idea to do so. Cheap insurance/peace of mind.

Also, not all derby covers use the same style of gasket, your gasket might not work for the new one.

Stock cover uses a rubber o ring, thats good for a bunch of times if you remove your derby cover. THe paper style for the aftermarket gaskets should be changed each time, like others said for a piece of mind. Cheap insurance. But i know others will say you dont have to change it. Just a good idea.

well i havent removed the cover yet but im doing my 5k service this weekend and got a black derby cover that i want to put on. so if the o-ring will be fine for a one time (planned) removal i can live with that.

Big tip....if you have t-27 screws on that cover don't try to remove them with a t25 bit.
Get the t27 bit to avoid a stripped head which will then keep you busy for hours instead of minutes. Been there.

If you have the paper gasket you can re-use it many times, I still have my original one after 50k and it still seals just fine.
As far as I know they do not use the o-ring anymore, when I replaced my primary the new one did not even have the groove for it like my original one did.

Same here, stripped out two of the screws and spent the rest of the afternoon using drills and easy-outs to get her out. Went back in with some stainless allen heads so hopefully won't happen again

my 2010 had the oring style, its not round, its more like a ribbon. Most aftermarket derby covers dont have the groove so you will need a flat one
