I bought my Street Bob in November of 2005 and had to wait about 2 weeks for the dealer in North Carolina to ship it to Florida. I can honestly say that is the longest 2 weeks of my life. I had a Sportster that I loved and the new bike required me to sacrifice that bike. My wife had started to ride more and more and we were just a little too cramped when 2up on the Sporty. I wish I could have kept it, but once I got the Street Bob, I wasn't mourning for long. It's a great machine.
Over the first 11 months, I replaced the cables with the diamondbacks, lowered it, switched to LED lighting, went with the fat mini-apes and rewired internally, installed a black ceramic coated RB Racing 2-1 exhaust system with chrome heat shields, upgraded to the SE air cleaner, tinkered with the SERT, installed a tach, rigged up a homemade garage door opener, installed detachable sissy bar and pillion and I swapped out tons of little cosmetic things.
I was having a blast and my bike was starting to have its own unique look. I was really loving the contrast of the flat black paint and chrome. Those brushed lower fork sliders, the polished aluminum triple trees and the black brake hardware started to be a glaring mismatch with the rest of my bike. It was decision time . . . before spending a wad on my front end I needed to decide did I REALLY want a springer or was I just flapping my gums?
I decided I only wanted to do this with a factory front end. Not only does that shock look awesome, I didn't want my new 2006 bike to have any major aftermarket components. So it was time to do some research, but I came up empty. I got a lot of stuff like "anything's possible if you've got enough money", "springer won't work on a Dyna frame", but I never got any helpful information about the challenges I would face. So I decided I would try to find the parts and just go for it.
I got super lucky and found a complete springer from a 1996 Bad Boy that had been re-powder coated and looked like new. I posted some details of the conversion in a thread in the Dyna area so I won't rehash it here. Overall, it really wasn't that bad of a project and the results are better than I expected. The bike rides and handles great. Of course it's still a work in progress and I just can't afford to "finish" her right now. The definite items on the to do list are a custom seat, chrome rocker boxes and tappet blocks, chrome hardware all around, and then engine performance upgrades will be at the top of my list.
I made the changes to the bike that I like and I honestly had no idea if it would have any appeal to other people. Getting nominated for BOTM on HDForums was an unexpected compliment but to win it is a stunner. Thanks for the votes and the compliments throughout the month. If I had the means to own 5 bikes this nice, this month's group would be my dream fleet. I don't recall a more diverse set of bikes for BOTM and the other bikes have just as much thought and effort into them as mine and were just as worthy to win it.

I do need some help though . . . how the heck do I decide who to vote for in Feb's BOTM???
