lets talk cams
Im sure this topic has been beat to death, and i did a search before posting. Could not find the excact answer i was looking for.
What size cams should i go with if i wanted to gain 10-15 hp's and some more low end torque, as i do a lot of 2 up riding. Are the S.E. 203's the ones to go with or is something like the 255's or 260's better. Will these cams work with a stage 2 big bore 103" that i would like to do in the future.
Currently i have a 96" tc motor w/ stage 1 a/c cleaner (i am in the process of getting a big air sucker) also have SERT w/ V&H big shots dyno'd at 75hp with 85lb torque.
Is 10-15 hp's a realistic number to be able to get out of cams?

The 255s are plentiful on eBay etc and can be had for a good price. They do pull pretty well.
As far as cam size, it doesn't work like that.
im getting the big air sucker to replace the stage 1 air cleaner that i currently already have.

Ahh. You won't gain anything by switching. They are both hi-flo air cleaners.
Good thing about the 54H's or the 555 (basically the same cam, VERY similar) you'll see good results as the chart above shows. It is also nice that both will respond well to some headwork, so down the road you can "grow" into the cam with a port/polish job, raising compression and adding cubes.
As you see, the cams really almost gave a solid 15 horse gain....so yes, with the right cams you will see a 10-15 horse increase with a GOOD tune, not a canned map. Also keep in mind, most cams will give you good results, you just have to pick where you want your power band as there is no end all, do it all cam profile. You always give up something to gain else where. Just be HONEST with yourself and where you ride your the bike the most and where you'd like your torque band to be. That way you won't make the same mistake many do, and go too large or get a cam with the power in the upper range and try to ride it in the 2-4k range.

Ya that's were i ride is in the 2-4k rpm range so that's definitely what i want is a cam that make power in that range.
So i have it narrowed down to S.E. 255 cams or a S&S 583 cams or andrews 26H cams.
Guess i will have to check prices and compare price vs quality.
Is this something that's fairly easy to do or should i have a shop do it. I'm pretty mechanicaly inclined and have torn down to pieces and rebuilt many jap motors besides the cam shaft locking tool are there any special tools in need?
I do have a service manual.

first tune was with a vance and hines tuner(canned map), vo2 intake, short shots

second tune was with pcv(real tune) big shots, heavybreather, 54h cams

third tune pcv(real tune) rinehart 2 into 1, heavy breather, 54h cams, Dewey street heads, 103 with kb pistons, 10:1 comp.

***Another note about power, if your just wanting usable, monster, sweet *** power then look REAL hard at doing the 30t-70t gearing. It will make your bike a stump puller. If you Buy brand new like I did you will have 300 in parts. However there is NO dyno time. I run 3000 rpm's @ 70. Think real hard before just doing cams. I really wish I would have held off and did the bigbore all at once, would have saved me a ton of money....

http://deweysheads.com/ let the man work his magic. my bike is a beast. I have another pull on my bike where it pulled 101hp and 113tq but it was way lean..this is where it landed and I don't care about numbers anyway...definatly look into the gearing..
