Granted it would have been the right thing to do...but the middle of no where would be hard to locate the proper owner.

My brother lost his car keys, the one with the fancy chip or computer inside the key...400+-$ him getting ready to get the new one made...he got a call from his gym saying someone has found his keys in a whole different town...

The guy found his keys, called to gym to find out who's they were from the membership number, and dropped them off to my brother. He truly went out of his way to find the owner of them which in this case was my brother. My brother offered him $ but he turned it away...there still are good people out there.

Shouldn't have jumped the gun selling the gold right away, but after 2 weeks of trying its in my opinion rightfully yours.

It could have had some great sedimental value to the owner...

Anyways, nice find!
