I say BullSh$t to that. Even though I am indeed a fool, my 'OL learned on a Lowrider and I feel safer riding with her than any others.

Speaking of my own experience I'm glad I was able to learn on a smaller bike. I think a larger one would have left me intimidated.

Best of luck to you and the wife.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with a Dyna for a first motorcycle, my Low rider is my first and only motorcycle. However, I strongly suggest taking the MSF or riders's edge course before you get on said Dyna.

Also, I really think if you're going to put an engine guard on a Fat Bob, it should be the black version, with black highway pegs and hardware.

The problem that has occurred with engine guards on a few occasions is that when you drop the bike they bend the mounting tab on the frame, the one in the middle. When you make an insurance claim and they see the damage on the frame, the bike gets totaled. Most insurance companies consider frame damage on a bike, no matter how small, a total loss because the only way they will fix it is to replace it. In hind sight it is cheaper to replace the damaged engine covers. YMMV

She is signed up for the MSF course and she's already made up her mind and really there is nothing scary about Fat Bob except the weight and if she wants to ride it she's gonna have to get used to that anyhow.

You make my point.
If there is anything scary at all about it, a lighter or slower bike should be what you start with.
Anytime anyone is afraid of something they will be apprehensive, which leads to hesitation and can lead to injury.

It's not that it cannot be done, but why would you allow somebody to try something that has potentially deadly consequences if there is a better way, especially if they have already told you there is anything about it that might be scary?

Was this the path I took? No, I started riding dirtbikes at 6 years old and had been through several bikes before I was old enough to have a license, but had I waited, I would have started on the biggest bike I could find, because I have no fear of it.

Boy, The thread goes from installing engine guards to what bike your lady should learn to ride on....

I'm not a big fan of engine guards and definitely think the black ones would look better. BUT, if you like them that's all that matters...

I agree on the black, but I got this one for fathers day so chrome it is until it collects some scratches, then off to the powder coater.

Look guys I appreciate all the advice, but my wife has made up her mind, she's determined, not scared and there's nothing any of us can do to get her to start on a smaller bike.

I'm the one thats worried, a little apprehensive and would love for her to start on something a little lighter.
