Default Storm clouds looming

Looking to do some long range riding and I'm concerned about rain getting sucked into my stage1 air cleaner if I get caught out in a down pour. Anyone have water getting sucked into the throttle body or having any problems with this? My ac is a K&N type with an open cover.

I've had a few good soakings on bikes with open filters and its never been a problems. Much more likely that the water gets into the electrics and causes problems, some folks understandably getting these confused.

You'll want an oil-type filter though and keep it oiled. Otherwise you'll be fine. A bit of water in the intake will do no harm, the filter will stop any large amounts.

Don't waste your money dude! I have the rain sock put it on and water still gets through it. Specifically ordered for my AN/BS black rain sock, forgot to use it last time it rained, found it was un-necessary and also cuts your air flow!

roscoe2010, some water could get in, this will cause only very minor hesitation when you open her up and she takes a deep breath. Just go easy in the rain ,you want to avoid accidents anyway, take it off and dry out any remaining water at the end of the day. And if you can't no big all the throttle parts are aluminum which will not rust.

Speaking of rain, helping a buddy move furniture to his vacation home in Fla, over the weekend into next week, I was going to bring my bike, but now Fla is suppose to have several tropical storms hit the state.
This sucks, only time I ever had the opportunity to ride in Fla was when I purchased a Softail in Ft. Meyers back in 99!

No need to worry - drag racers actually inject water in motor for added HP/boost. A little rain water isn't going to hurt your bike - if it gets super heavy...just find a place to wait out the heavy stuff.

I use something like this if I'm going on a trip or know I'll encounter rain on a normal day ride. You can kind of see it in my sig pic. It's a round air cleaner cover from a Crossbones. Rain socks are useless in any real rain.

30k plus miles with an open element and zero problems through some heavy rains.
Heading to Sturgis in 09, I started the first 425 miles of rain & wet roads. On the way home it was 450 miles.
Don't worry about it and just roll on...
