Your dealer is full of crap! There is nothing wrong with a PCIII, have one on my bike right now, Fuel Moto version and it runs great!

There is an auto-tune module for the PC.

And we get it.. the ThunderMax is awesome. You're comparing a tuner that is < $300 with one that is about a grand. Enough already.

The PC can definitely be tuned, so I'm not sure what the dealership was talking about.

You cannot get the PC III with autotune for starters, and you certainly cannot get the PC autotuner for <300. the TMax is not a grand, was actually less than a new PC and a dyno tune. Guess you don't get it.

My mistake. There is an auto-tune for the PC V.

Per Zippers website (www.thunder-max.com), the TMax with autotune is 989.95. You're right, it's not a grand. My bad.

My point was that the OP was asking about a PCIII which is $259 from FuelMoto and you recommended a tuner that is (not quite) a grand.

You can get the TMax for way less than that from Dr V-Twin, or at least I did, was under 700, you are trying to compare a list price for the Tmax to a special discount price from a site sponsor, apples and oranges.

Apples to Oranges. You mean like PCIII Vs. TMax?

Ok, ok. PCIII USB from powercommander.com is $369.

Under $700 for a Thundermax is unbelievable. You got a great deal, no doubt. Dr. V-Twin has it listed for 899.99! Too bad it's still nearly double the PCIII.

I could care less whether you believe it or not, bottom line is if you get a straight unit like a PC to get the performance out of it equal to an autotuner you need a dyno tune, those cost money, and if you make a change, do it again. If you are like many on here that think getting your bike dyno'd is cool, then a PC is for you, frankly I have not been to a dyno since I quit racing.

The whole point here is to think about options to the cycle of having to deal with maps every time you make a change, and there are some very good alternatives out there, does it cost money, yes, but there is no cost down the road when you change your AC or pipes, or add cams, or WTF.

You can stick with your PC and call someone for a new map and hope it works, or tinker with it yourself if you want to take the time to learn all about tuning instead of enjoying the ride, every time if you want, or you can spend a few dollars more and not have to deal with that BS.

Anyways, I am done, I offered an alternative, do with it what you will.

Jessie's advice is good, and a lot of people have success with this route.

There's several fuel tuners out there, between PC III (low end) and ThunderMax/AutoTune (high end). I use a TTS MasterTune (about $400) and a laptop, and tune my bike myself. Look in the Fuel Injection forum on this site; there's great support for all of the different tuners.
