Default dynojet power commander III

I just got a 2001 ultra classic and it has a dynojet power command III installed on it. It cuts out and back fires, been told that this dynofet PC III probably is set too high and needs to be adjusted down. How do you do that? We put new spark plugs and it drove fine for the morning but started to cut out again by afternoon. Any suggestions are welcome.

If you really want to keep the power commander, get a dyno tune from a reputable independent mechanic. You won't regret it.

If you don't want to keep the PC, I believe if you simply disconnect it, the bike will revert to running on factory settings.

Also, you might want to visit the DynoJet web site and ask them for a recommendation.

It's hard to diagnose this type of problem on a 10-year-old bike, or even a new one, but I wouldn't jump to blame the PCIII. It could be a number of things, but I would first look at the hardware buttons on the tuner and make sure they're set to their default positions (no changes being made by the buttons), then take a test ride.

If that doesn't help, bypass the PCIII by unplugging and returning the ECM to its original configuration, then test again. If the problem clears up re-connect the PCIII and try to establish a clear cause-and-effect relationship. If you can tie it to the PCIII you can then go to DynoJet or a trusted tech and start the diagnosis.

OTOH since you may not know the history of the bike you might want to just take it to a competent dyno-tuner without further diagnosis, as per Petesnot's suggestion.

You should be able to go to DynoJet's website and get the map for your configuration and re-load it, along with the other suggestions....A good tuner should be able to take care of you.

Start here:
http://www.powercommander.com/powerc...dType=PCIIIUSB and scroll down to tutorials, and also to manuals, both which you can download.
The tutorials run on screens just like you will see when you do a remap.
Once you do this it will be clear on how to both update your PCIII (if needed) and to do a remap for your particular bike with it's mods (if any), or how to disconnect the the PCIII from your system and reconnect your ECM (it's just a matter of swapping connectors).
If you take the PCIII out of the circuit, your old ECM will work again as stock.

Exactly. It's an electronic device, and it may have "lost" your map. Re-install the map or look for an updated one, and try it again.

I know this is an old post but I found it by looking for reasons why my PCIII might be acting up. I but mine on Christmas 2009 and sometime in June 2010 riding down to the Three Sisters my bike started cutting out. I pulled into a station, cut off the bike and when I went to start it up again it acted like there was not power,Bike would not start. I took it off and the bike cranked up and I went ahaead with my trip with no problems. I got back home,re-mapped it stuck it back on and it ran fine again till December 2010 when it started cutting out and missing again. I went into a Club meeting and when I came out again the bike would not crank. I pulled the PCIII and now the bike runs great again. I just don't get it. Now I am about to intsall a V&H 2-1 Pro-Pipe and my Arlen Ness Big Sucker,so I want to use the PCIII with the set up but I don't want to deal with having to pull the damn thing off again while on the road. Any Suggestions from you gear heads out there?
