Does your wrist or hand feel numb if you go above 16"s if you ride for long distances at a stretch
long distance (anything more than 250miles)
If you are young and all is well, most likely not. I pulled my apes a couple years ago after turning 50 because I was starting to get the numbness from having my hands up higher than my shoulders.
I think it is an individual thing and affects each differently.
Always had apes up until then, but happy with my new bars and have not experienced any numbness since the swap.
Hey guys I'm going to put some burly narrow glide apes on my '12FXDC and can't decide between the 12's and the 14's.I want my hands right about shoulder height I'm 5'9.Can somone help me decide, I sat on the bike and tried to measure ,but I'm not sure exactly how to do that acurately. Thanks for the help.
You need another person to measure.
Close your eyes and put your hands out and let them rest where they feel comfy. Measure from tree to hands. Minus 1.5" for risers. You have your bar height.
All you guys are missing a crucial point, inseem vs height. Some guys carry their height in there legs others in their torso. On top of that, there seems to be no standard in how manufacturers measure the rise (top of center to top of grips / center of center to top of grips / end of grips...). Add to that the pullback and the angle YOU set your bars and the rise once again changes.

that's a lot of words it didn't help at all. we are simply giving feedback on our personal sit ups I don't think we missed anything.
Go big. 14 or 16. I bought the 12 Burly Narrow Apes for my last bike, set them on the risers and exchanged them for 14s without even installing them. I'm 5'6.
