I just dropped off my 2011 superglide at the dealership. The fork seals have always weeped and for many here it went away. After a year it was still weeping and I recently had my forks bottom out so I asked them to replace them under warranty and replace the fork oil with the next heavier screamin eagle oil. It's suppose to be done tommorow, so we will see how it rides after.
I replaced mine at about 400 miles . same problem. they still leave a very fine spot on the forks now but it hasn't seem to have hurt anything. They ride great.
Why are the harley dealerships so stupid? They called to tell me they had to order the seals and they won't be in for 3-5 days. I made the appointment a week ago and asked why they didn't make sure they had the seals in stock and they said that they just can't order parts until the mechanic has verified they are leaking. Well this happens to be the third time the service dept has seen the seals and verified they were leaking. So WTF. I think I'll go down saturday morning and demo a road king and not show back up for 3 or 4 hours just for the inconvenience. Then they wonder why people give them such a hard time.
"they said that they just can't order parts until the mechanic has verified they are leaking"
Certainly you can understand that. Think of the enormous cost of keeping little rubber seals on inventory. What a 'load' they are pushing. I'd be in the Managers ear about this nonsense. There are what, 4 H-D stores within 50mi?
ya 4 HD stores and no one has fork seals for a new dyna that has a service bulletin on the seals? Real f ing smart. I'm pissed because I was going for a ride sat morning.
I really think I still will....with their bike of my choice.
I really don't think they would say no, the GM called me when I brought in someone that bought a bike and gave me a 100 card. What sucks is this is one of the better HD dealers. I can't imagine how bad some of them are.
Here is the current update. They ordered a complete fork rebuild kit (a little overkill, but ok) The rebuild kit is backordered until the 12th. (I'm glad I called the dealership as they weren't about to call me) Anyways I'm going to pick up my bike, I can't have it in the shop that long sitting. They say the only thing they did was take off the fork caps but they are back on the bike. Why do I have a feeling there is going to be a surprise when I go to pick it up?
Service writer should have looked up the parts and ordered them when you scheduled the job, since it was clear what was needed. I recall going to the parts dept and ordering everything (new bushings, seals, snap ring, even new chrome dust covers b/c I figured they would mangle them), then went to the service dept to schedule a date for the work. All the parts were available on the scheduled date and the tech replaced all of them.
