Just got inspected, my local inspector has passed me for the last 10 years. First thing he checks are the baffles that I install just for him. Hate to admit it but the old EVO runs smoother in the low RPMs. Might just leave them in for a while. Still sends the cows scurrying when I ride by..
Here in "Greater Europe" the law is not only about the sound level but also about the markings on the pipes. They have to be e-stamped to be legal. Though this does get ignored by a lot of Harley riders and they take the risk of getting ticket. Maybe you have something like that in Canada?
Remus exhausts are e-stamped and so are fully legal, with not even SE pipes being legal in Europe. The handy thing about Remus is the baffles are removable in about 20 seconds and can be easily modded to tweak the sound to what you like.
Making revenue for the P.D., bet there are lot's of sports-cars, pick-up's, etc, that couldn't pass either. Even some Motocycle Police modify their mufflers by drilling, punching, etc. All this B.S. started, when some blast their loud exhaust around towns, anoying some, and complaining to the law. Use you loud pipes with discretion, or we all lose!
Loud Pipes come with a cost, risk of getting pulled-over. Lot's of communities are bitching, the P.D. has found a revenue with plently of "easy-pickings", think about it. I like the sound too, but tried of this B.S.. Some riders, should be more responsible, but, you like loud, with attitude, it may cost-you-extra! I have settled on riding and listening to my great stereo. Somewhere in the future there is a market for mufflers, that are certified. I don't see any police crawling under cars and looking for the 80db certification, but maybe, they are not in packs, trying to raise thunder either! Life is full of B.S. for you to deal-with! Screw-It-Let's-Ride!
where in canada are you? nova scotia only requires that the bike be equipped with a "muffling device" a set of bct baffles work just fine. as for being "too loud" i fought that on here with my sporty. as there is no set decibal limit it leaves the it up to personal interpretation to individiual officers and as each individual officer has a different definition of too loud the law cannot be enforced fairly or equally as such is a violation of my right to be trerated with Equality before and under law and equal protection and benefit of law as garunteed under the charter of rights and freedoms.
now im not a lawyer so its not legal advice but i would research your areas specific laws and if you can fight them do so. i have lots of free time and dont mind tieing myself in court to both get out of a ticket and prove a point. oh and dont argue with cops on the side of the road they can and usually will make your day morwe difficult and/or painful and its them against you where as in court theres lots of witness's
Does not sound like this is just an issue for some it seems more and more of these threads are coming up from people in Canada sounds like its going to be come more and more of an issue with how much talk there is about it just even here on HD forums. I am not sure what I would do, here in the US/Minnesota they leave you alone 95% of the time unless your cracking your throttle to be anoying and such. Normal riding no problem. As for your issue you might be best off with the SE slip ons, sounds like your only truw option or just the stockers. Good Luck
Your bike gets towed to an impound yard to which you will not have access to it to perform the corrective action. Right? So, then how do you satisfy the law if it gets impounded?
What does the law state in your area? Are they illegal due to noise?
Is it a length issue? Fight the good fight?
Put your stockers back on?
After looking at a photo of my bike in stock form it sounds like even the oem exhaust would be illegal
Notice the front exhaust. It ends before the rear axle.
What is the verbiage of the law in your area? Do both mufflers have to exceed the rear axle?
Yes they will tow it to a dealer of my choice to make it legal again and get it re inspected.. Only one pipe has to go past the rear axle. and at 92 decibals aswell..
WTF, I thot Canada was a place with easy laws? Yu guys even get a ticket fer smokin' weed if that? Cannot believe they are hassling yu...
Anyway, I have same pipes, and installed Big City Thunder Quiet Quality Baffles all the way up my pipe and the V/H in behind em... quieted somewhat, especially at Idle. I know it doesn't help yu as far as LENGTH (has to be behind rear axle?) I wonder what diff. dat makes?
