Completed all steps, got to the final point where you re-adjust the cable, kept turning and turning the adjuster until there was no thread left and still had no bite with the clutch lever. Any idea what could cause that? Thanks.
If you did everything right something must have come loose. Was it working before you adjusted the basket. Did you adjust it when it was cold and only back it off 1/2 turn?
The cable adjust is just to give you about an 1/8" free play of the lever (IIRC).
Clutch not engaging is the clutch adjustment itself.
The following link is where the other end of the clutch cable attaches on a 6 speed tranny. 07 Street Bob.
Since you did not list your year and bike, you can search for the diagrams on that site.
Its a 2010 Street Bob.... I was replacing the jam nut because on last adjustment i overtightened it and damaged the thread (its made of softer material for some reason). Engine was cold. Clutch was ok before. I'll look for something coming loose.
OK, I am stumped... the cable is fine.. leaving the lever, at the adjuster and going into the clutch... when i have turned the clutch adjuster all the way away from the jam nut until it is basically off the thread of the cable I get resistance at the lever about 1/2" away from the grip but it doesnt feel like clutch resistance... feels more like solid or hard resistance...
Any more suggestions?? Gonna post in the tech section too....
Sounds like you are turning the adjuster the wrong way.Turn the adjuster so that there is slack in the clutch handle to the grip. Then adjust the clutch.
Wish it was that... no, ive gotten a lead in the tech area and by doing a bunch of searches.... Looks like it could be i need to realign inner ramp... Just making sure im not getting in too deep first... Gulp!
Good idea, start from the beginning going step by step. Just remember, the further out you turn the adjusting screw, when you pull the clutch lever, the closer to the handlebar the clutch engages.
If you turned it to far out, the clutch may not engage.
No matter what I do at the clutch cable adjuster I am never getting any clutch lever bite.. I'm hoping it's this simple process of correcting the angle of the inner ramp... Fingers crossed!!
