Cutting the spacer would be the wrong way to go.
You are only about 50 lbs lighter than the average, so you are only about 15-20 lbs lighter on the front end, cutting the spacer will not help. Is there any difference with a full or empty tank?
Something is not setup correctly in the front end, it may have been that way before you changed the oil.
Did you thoroughly clean every part of the front end? It does not take much to clog the oil passages in the dampers. How much oil did you put in?
How much preload did you have with your current spacers?
Do they bang if you compress them while sitting still? I am trying to think what would bang in a fork and I am having trouble. Did you check the gas tank bolts? Maybe it is not the forks at all.
