The Switchback has a very secure twist style lock inside the bag, but if you don't turn it all the way and hear the loud click and it seats into place, it won't be locked. There's even color pictures warning to do it right.
I was tired and probably didn't twist it all the way. Won't happen again.
I don't see how to improve on it - except maybe a remote shock device to tell me I didn't lock it
The "Switchback" emblem can be found by doing a "fender" thread search here.
Little off topic here if i may, but wondering about your pipes and the "switchback" on your front fender. what can you tell me about these items? Have you a fuel tunner?
Man!! So sorry to see that happened to your bike but I agree, it does look good without the bags.
I don't know if you have any kids but have you ever gone somewhere in your car and all of a sudden had an instant where you freaked out because you got that feeling you left your kids behind and had to look back to reassure yourself that they're fine and in the back seat? Well that's the feeling I always get with my bike after I've washed it and had the saddlebags off then go for a ride. I get so far and then have that instant where I have to reach back and feel for the saddlebags. Whew!! They're still there.
Had a bag fall off my Street Glide in my neighborhood. That incident of me not locking it on properly cost me about $350 to be painted. You are lucky that you can do the work yourself. Nice bike - I like the Switchbacks.
I am fixing it right now. Filled the scratches in with fiberglass resin kit from autoparts store, have wet sanded it and just painted with black paint.
It runs along the lower and front edges, so I plan to use black reflector tape to cover it, and I shouldn't need a repaint.
Going to post pics when it's done.
It's my "poor man's bag fix".
