Default new 2012 wide glide

I've been a member here since 2010 and don't post much but i do creep around quite often. I just wanted to come and show off my new sled because i'm so damn excited, and share a LONG story with you all on how i came to get this bike. I'll start with a pic of my old 2001 fxd.

now heres the new one at the dealer ship right off the truck, plastic still on it.

the day i picked it up

here's my story,
this past december i was browsing on cl, and came across my 2001 fxd, it had 8600 miles and he wanted 5k for it. So i got the okay from my wife and bought it. I worked on the thing more than i rode it. I owned it for 6 months and i put a lepara seat (not shown), new tires, put baffles back in the exhaust, brake pads, pulled the inner primary and replaced every seal, put a new transmission shift arm on while it was off, put a mid shift shaft delete on it, found rust in the tank and went the por 15 route, got all of the old coating out took care of the rust and re lined the tank. i had to dig into the trans because every time i shifted from 2nd to third the shifter would kick down at my foot.

So the other day i finally get everything buttoned up from the re lining the tanks and off i go. while riding my bike was going to roll over to 10k miles. i stopped for gas turned the key on and the odometer read 20 miles instead of 10020. i hit the trip button on the back and nothing happened. so i ride home and look into my manual for the wiring diagram. after finding it i go outside and start pulling the spedo apart and looking at the wires making sure everything is where it needs to be, and then i find my problem. The crooked sob i bought the bike from bent the one connector in the clip in half so the bike was never actually reading the odometer, it was stuck on the trip. i unbent it and reconnected it then turned the key. 22000 was the actual mileage on the bike. i exploded! i flipped back and forth between trip and odometer and the messed up thing is that on this sppedo it never actually says mi or trip like most do, so when i bought it the odometer didn't tell me i was looking at 8600 on the trip. just as i finished up my wife called on her lunch break and i told her what i found, she went off too. no wonder i worked on it more than i rode it. i know 22k isn't a lot of miles but you could tell the guy didn't take care of the bike in those 22k. first oil changed was bad the oil looked awful.

abouot a month back i went to my local hd dealer and was looking at the wide glide. all they had was vivid black and they were going to give me 6500 for my bike, but the wife didn't want me to because she didn't want another payment, so i passed on it. she said she felt bad she didn't let me trade it in when i had a chance, so she said go back and get the wide glide. so the day i found out about the mileage i went back to hd. i found my salesman from last time and explained what had happened and that i was ready to do the trade as long as they did'nt knock too much off the trade. so he starts getting the paper work ready for the vivid black and then comes up to me and says " we just got 3 more wide glides off the truck about an hour ago, you pick which one you want". so we go back and there's another vivid black, a vivid black with flames, and my red one with flames. i jumped on the red one. turns out it was a good thing the wife didn't let me get the first wide glide, because i originally wanted the blue with flames not the black, but when i saw the metallic red it was over. so i got the bike i wanted, the dealership didn't get screwed by selling my fxd with 22k thinking it only had 9k and my interest rate was down 2 percent from the time i went before.

told you it was a LONG story! lol

I have a 2012 Wide Glide with about 2K miles on it. I came off a FXR with 80K in it and don't feel the ride on the 2012 is as good. The 2012 does not take rough pavement as well even after putting on a set of progressive 430 shocks. With the shocks on close to the highest setting ( I weigh 175 lbs.), I find it will bottom out once in a while if the bumps are deep enough with certain spacing. Is anyone else experiencing this?
The seats were other items that had to go. The drivers seat became uncomfortable after about twenty minutes and the wife said hers was down right painfull after 10 minutes. We now have mustang reduced reach tripper seat combo and are very pleased. I didn't realize that I would be putting all this extra money into a new bike.
One last topic: Has anyone put with Drag Specialties (1801-0283) or Vance & Hines (1801-0406) slip-ons on their Wide Glides? I was wondering if you had to re-map for them and how is they sound. I'm looking for a little rumble, not too much, since it sonds like a sewing machine presently. If you have, did they provide any difference in performance? Thanks.

for me the wide glide is better on rough payment and bump. the super glide front end would dip down real hard when i hit a decent sized bump. i think the forks needed rebuilt. i'm 6"0' 185-190 and i haven't bottomed out on it yet, but then again i haven't put 2k on her yet. as for the seat it's not bad but i don't love it either. i want to get something that puts me back a little more so i can stretch out on it. my wife hasn't had too much time on it but i know if we go for a nice long ride she'll hate that little pad on the back.
