Is there an easy way to tell if your motor mounts are shot on a 98 Dyna?? I have checked every nut and bolt that I can get to, but I'm still not sure if my motor mounts are OK? I'm getting a loud bang from underneath my gas tank when I hit a good sized bump in the road. My Gas Tank is tight, I checked everything I could, so right now I want to check my rubber motor mounts. My motor doesn't seem to be jumping in the frame any more than usual. I was thinking of doing a "Power Brake" type of test to see if the motor jumps, but I'll take any suggestions from someone that has had motor mount problems before. Thanks.
Changed mine on my 98 about 2 years ago, just because they were rubber, and 12 years old.
Make sure your tank bolts aren't lose first, but prolly time to change yer rubber.

I have checked the bolts for the gas tank several times. I'm going back into the garage to check some other things. I was asking if there was a way to test your motor mounts? The bolts seem fine. I had the bolts snap on my rear motor mount go bad several years ago, but that was easy to detect because I could see and feel my motor jump inside the frame. I was hoping there was a quick tip to check them?
Also, do a search on motor mounts, there are quite a few threads on them. There are also a few pictures of bad mounts.
It is tough to explain what to look for, but when they sag, the top rubber hump on the front mount contacts the metal housing. This is explained in the bulletin.
Thanks for your help Gommee. The noise seemed to be coming from under the front of my tank so I thought it might have been a motormount going bad, thus causing the motor to bang around under the tank. Sounds travel through a bike so sometimes it's hard to figure out where the noise is originating from. I found the noise was from the neck of my frame and I tightened things up and now my bike is running great with no more noise.
