06 street bob IPB and stator problem??

Couldn't tell from you posts if the IPB is going or not..

If it is fine, keep riding.

If the bearing is going bad call/write H-D, get a Reference Number, and bring bike to dealer. Plenty of 06 IPB bearings have been repaired out of warranty by H-D.

+1 They replaced mine last fall, all I had to pay for was the fluids. At first they only replaced the cases if the bearing failed twice, which mine did. I don't know if they still wait for the second failure or just do it. As someone has already stated the bearing won't grenade on you, it just makes a lot of noise. The first failure I was scared to ride it, the second time I waited until the riding season ended before I took it in. I rode all summer with the bearing making a racket.

My stator bolts backed out and wrecked the winding on my '06 FXDC at 18,000 miles, had a dealer fix it and install the new part which is one piece - no bolts to back out. My IPB never failed, but we replaced it anyway just for fun b/c the tech was in there. The job cost $800 bucks! My advice would be to address the stator problem on your terms before the thing let's go on some god forsaken road and leaves you stranded like mine did. The IPB problem won't leave you stranded, but I'd address that too while you're in there. Buenos suerte!

To all the '06 owners on here, if you want an '06 stator to weld so you can reduce down time send me a pm. I have one available. This is what I did when I worked on mine, I got one from a member here and had it welded and ready to go. I spent less that 2 hours doing the job myself and it was easier than dealing with the dealer.

Ok well that pretty much answers my questions.. No the IPB hasnt gone yet. Just trying to nip the problem in the bud because I am going cross country in 2 months... I guess I'll just get brave one day and tear into the primary and take care of the stator and the ipb all at once. thanks for the input. Good to know that harley dealership has helped people out of warranty with known problems
