I just changed out my drag bars with built in risers for 12" L.A. Choppers "Nice Curves" and 2" Joker Machine Risers. The bike is a 2002 Low Rider. I was surprised at how how these ended up. I am 6'4" but with the low stance of the bike, the Bare Bones seat, and +3 forward controls, these bars sit an inch higher than my shoulders. I don't think I could have handled the 16"ers!
I replaced the throttle and idle cables, the clutch cable and the brake line using the Burly 14" kit (Ebay $160ish). I did not have to use the wiring harness extension that comes with the kit but I did have to cut the wires and then re-solder after wiring the bars. I also went with new HD grips. I'm going to add black Joker Machine Mirrors and change the headlight. No decision on the front turn signals yet but I will probably mount them on the forks.
Lookig good.. Do your arms get tired on long rides?
I rode about an hour yesterday and my arms did not bother me. The big change was my back and legs. With the drag bars and forward controls, my back would start hurting after about 30 mins (I do have 2 herniated discs) and my inner legs (abductors) would be sore the next day. With the new bars, my back didn't hurt at all. They put me in a very upright, comfortable position and my legs rest down more on the pegs so they are relaxed instead of tense. Much better for me at least. I did notice that my slow, parking lot skills are not as good as before so I have to do some drills and get use to the new bars.
Hey 02Low and Desertram, are those bars considered 12" rise at center or 12" end rise? Because they look pretty tall for 12" bars!
I was thinking of going up to 14" rise, but I might have to rethink it after seeing both of your bikes. I think those look killer and I'm only 5'8" so bars with a rise like this will probably be a better fit.
Looks awesome. I actually have a set of nice curves that I'm just waiting for a rainy weekend to put the on. Seeing them on yours gives me more motivation to put them on sooner.
I do wish they had 14's though, that would have been my first choice. But seeing them on your's the 12's look great.
