So I posted earlier about having troubles getting the wires ran through my El Diablos. Finally got both sides wired, man was that a pain in the ars!!!
I almost got stopped again when I thought I had the wrong cable kit from Burley, but I got my head out of my butt and realized that I had the throttle and idle cable mixed up and everything went in fine.
So I finally got the bike all back together and discovered an electrical issue! Which if I was smart I would have tested the electrical before I tucked everything back in its place, but hey...its my first time.
So I am hoping the electrical issue is just a simple wire swap. The problem is when the bike has power to it, the right front signal constantly blinks. When I turn the right signal on, the front and back light up correctly, but after a few seconds they both start blinking fast. I am thinking that I got two out of the three wires for the signal mixed up, hopefully it will be a quick fix.
Other than that, just need to bleed the front brake and adjust the clutch, and hopefully, fingers crossed, this job will be complete!!!
If I get it all done tomorrow I will post some pics.
Sounds like you hooked the kill switch or starter wire to turn signal wire. Check to see if bike will start. If not thats the problem. You might blow a fuse when trying to start but no big deal. I ordered my apes prewired and they installed the molex wire plug at the end of the harness with the wires mixed up. Mine was on the left side. The horn wire was hooked to the turn signal so I had to sort out the problem. Not hard just time consuming. You'll figure it out. Just a pain in the butt. When your done, the apes are worth it.

I was able to start the bike with no problems. And the signals acted the same with the bike off or on, so I am hoping its just swapping a couple of wires. I know I will be pleased when its all complete, already looks bad a$$!!
I had to route the clutch cable a little differently to keep it from binding. My biggest issues was that and I had to apply some lithium grease under my throttle to get it to work smoothly.
This job can be something of a pain, I build my own motors on my drag bikes have little issues with them but for some reason those bars was a pain for me. Just keep at it then sit back when your done and enjoy the feeling of knowing you did it yourself. Can't wait to see the finished product

After adjusting my throttle and idle it feels pretty smooth to me. My clutch feels rough however, when I pull it in it feels like the handle doesnt ride in smooth. I am hoping its just an adjustment issue, plus I still need to dump a little fluid back in from what I lost when I took the cover off. I may also need to put a little lithium grease on the clutch cable.

I cant express how aggrevating it was pulling the wires through those damn bars! I got one side in ok after a few tries. But the other side took the better part of a full day. I think the problem was the wire bloom getting caught up at the 90 degree bend. I frazzled the wire bloom pretty good and had to use some electrical tape to bandaid it.
I dont know if the 90 degree bend has some burs on the inside or what? And since you cant see inside, its pretty much a matter of trying, over and over again.
Thats crazy I had the same problem with my left side it was one wire at a time I broke the clips in the plug that holds it together. Killed a whole day on that 1 side.
Completely finished, almost! Haha, so the very last thing I am having difficulty with is that damn plastic piece underneath the gas tank, I believe it is used to cover up the wiring. Cant find anything in the service manual about it, and cant figure out how to get that booger back in. My buddy is the one who took it out and I didnt watch him, so I dont know how it should go back in. Any suggestions?
Other than that I am done! Was going to take pictures today, but it is storming here and cant get good shots in the garage.
I think this is going to be my last mod for a while! This job really kicked my butt. I learned a lot though and feel more confident about doing my own work, just dont want to for a while.
To my surprise, after reading a lot of threads, bleeding the front brake was a breeze. Bought a cheap one man bleeder kit at the auto part store, and within five minutes of starting I was done!
The hardest thing by far was running those damn wires through the bars, those 90 degree bends are a PITA!!!!!
The electrical issue I had was on the right blinkers. I think I screwed up the connectors/terminal when I removed them. They werent seated very well after installing them, which was causing the problem.
I took the easy way out, I cut the terminals off and spliced them together. I did a clean job and dont think there will be any issues.
Other than that, if weather is decent tommorrow I will post some pics!
