I haven't heard anybody mention how the RK fits into any part of this discussion. If you know anything about the RK, it's all inclusive of the nimbleness of a Switchback and the comfort of a SG for short and long hauls. If you going to discuss Touring bikes and Dynas in the same discussion, you'll have to include the fact that the RK is both bikes.

Probably because the OP's question was just in reference to the SG and the Switchback. And what does the statement that "the RK is both bikes" mean? The Road King is it's own bike all on it's own. I don't think it's even similar to a dyna or a Street Glide. It's in the touring family, but I think that's about all there is as far as similarities between it and the Street Glide.

I rode xcountry on a 1972 kawasaki 500 triple back in 73, yea it wasn't made for touring but who knew back then. Me and my brother were riding motorcycles xcountry! thats what mattered. funny thing was we seemed to be the only motorcycle on the road back then, never saw another bike then. hell the motels use to hide us out back because we were on bikes.
buy what you want, enjoy whatever bike you like, below Wife and I riding to Daytona, yeait tight but she never complained her first long distance ride

You didn't hear anything because this forum doesn't have an audio.

But if you read my posts #18 & 20, you would see an RK mentioned...

A friend with a RK said it beats him up, needs a backrest too. Prefers the riding position and suspension on his Dyna.

OK, I admit it, I started the RK fire storm, when in post #9 poster stated "or some unmentioned Harley". In post #10 I mentioned the RKC, as a bike I would like to have, and stated why. I have owned a SG and never took to it, that's why the RKC mention. My Dyna is still my favorite bike and would trust and enjoy riding it anywhere. tomp dd50

I made another dealer visit today looking at smaller and less expensive bikes as well as the SB. I had an idea that one of the most basic bikes with the 4.5 gallon tank would be a good re-entry vehicle. If I enjoy riding short and medium rides I can upgrade to a touring model and try long rides.

The 883L and 1200C are nice bikes and very easy to throw a leg over but they needed a little more space to be comfortable. The SB had more room and was still easy to throw a leg over. I still have a lot of thinking to do but I think the SB has moved a little more toward the top of the list.
