I 100% agree that it can only help you out and not hurt ur bike, just not every person needs one. I only ride open country roads, so it wont really do anything for me, my bike runs at a norm temp.
The new bikes run hotter than ever in stock form, though that can be helped a little with a tuner to richen things up. I run an oil cooler for the same reason I run synthetic oil. Maybe you don't "need" it and your bike will run fine for tens of thousands of miles as it is, but it can only help to stabilize oil temps. And where I live, triple digit summer temps are common, so my air-cooled engine needs all the help it can get.
my new 103 doesnt have an oil cooler and i dont think i need one either, since i richened up my fuel map the bike runs way cooler, doesnt even burn your inner thigh
Harley Davidson is the only company that has air cooled engines (That I know of) without an oil cooler. Either Harley is so technilogically advanced that they don't need them or they haven't wanted to admit for YEARS that perhaps they should have one like all the others. (Anyone that has watched H.D. over the years knows that they NEVER like to admit any fault of any kind!)
Harley has been making the 103 for a very long time. When the TC88 was the standard engine, pre 2007, the CVO bikes had the 103 as the upgraded engine. They didn't have an oil cooler either...The difference back then was all bore and now it is bore and stroke.
I just added one this week to my 09 SB. I also added some fans from Milan that I can switch on when I'm idling at long lights and for the Sturgis traffic. Over the winter I upgraded the AC, exhaust and tuner. Though I have a richer map my legs and crotch still get pretty darn warm. Though I've only ridden a few times now since I added the oil cooler and fans I do notice that the bike doesn't seem as hot and my a** isn't as sweaty lol
Oil coolers cool your engine and that is a good thing.
If you you really care for your bike you'll feel the pain it endures while your beating the crap out of it.
Me and my bike are special.
i'll take care of you and you take care of me.
