Oil Change/White Paste on Plugs

Ok, i searched thru the forums, and i do have the manual, i can't find reference to putting any kind of sealer on the oil/primary/transmission plugs. but as i remove each one, there is a white clay like substance on them. I'm guessing its somthing to prevent leaks, in addition to the o-rings...
Not going to bother with putting it back on this time, but before i change the oil again, i thought that i would try i find out what this is, and if i need it...

Teflon-based anti-seize compound. Use it (a tiny dab).
