I'm in the middle of swapping my Street Bob trees for Fat Bob trees, and on the SB top tree there is a locking washer that has a little tab that locates into a hole in the tree but there's no such hole in the FB top tree. I spoke to the local dealer expecting to need to buy some other type of locking washer or maybe a nyloc stem nut, but they told me there's no locking mechanism on the FB trees.
Now I know sometimes safety features are added when failures or other issues are reported but it seems a bit odd to remove a safety feature particularly since HD's are well known for vibrating nuts and bolts loose.
Does anyone know if the dealer is right on this? Should I be worried?
I can't imagine that they ran extensive tests without locking washers to establish that it was safe to run without them. The SB is a 2006 and the trees are from a 2008 FB.
