Default front end feels loose?

hi everybody i just changed to 2007 triple trees on my 08 street bob and put night train bars on and now the front end feels almost loose and vibrates is this the clunk i keep hearing about?

Sounds very much like it could be the clunk. Did you corrrectly torque the adjustment nut, then the steering stem nut? If not, that is probably your issue.

yeah i think i got everything tight i torqued the steering nut to 80 i just got the star nut tight it was my first time taking the front end apart so i got in over my head real quik like thanks for responding

Ideally, this is done torquing the adjustment nut to specs, then performing a fall away test. I understand our work space and tools aren't always idea.

Thumb tight on the adjustment nut probably isn't tight enough. Loosen the stem nut, and top tree pinch bolts. Use a punch and hammer and tap the adjustment a couple times. Retighten and torque everything, and try it out. If you still have the clunk, try again.

Too tight, you may experience handling problems and premature bearing failure.

thanks i really appreaciate it i also thought it could be that i changed to drag bars im thinking about going to like a 14 inch ape intead of the drags ill try what you said thanks again

Since we're on the topic - I don't need to start a new thread

I've read the service book and still don't get the "fall away test" bit. Does someone have a write-up on how to do this or is there a thread on it already?
