Default FuelMoto 98"

I am seriously considering the 98" kit from FM for my '05 DX. What I'm looking for is experience with this setup. I'm looking for real world experience. I've seen the dynos, I've read the cam comparo's.... I want seat of the pants riding impressions. Also I'd like to hear how the installation process went. Anything I should know? What heads are you running? Should I do them as well? Really just an overall impression of the kit.

For background, I've already added the power-vision so tuning it with their base map, then fine tuning (though not a dyno) through it should get me close.... I'm also running their A/C(a big sucker) and a thunderheader.

Thanks in advance.

I'll be watching this thread too as I have the same questions, although if you do headwork you will more out of the build for sure. I see no reason not to do the headwork. I avhe decided I will keep my compression below 10:1 as I need lots of longevity out of my motor and it already has nearly 40K on it. It would be nice to make my ride a super hot rod but it seems impractical for a daily rider to me. If you feel different please explain. Not trying to steal your thread here, just trying to widen the scope of discussion so we get all the bases covered.

Not at all! I also desire to keep my daily drive-ability. And am also leaning towards head work. Any one have suggestions on heads? I should probably keep it in house with FM since they're familiar with the components....
This kit provides 10:1 CR. I'm hoping this doesn't compromise longevity(I doubt it as I'm sure the FM guys have considered this), or require compression releases....

I don't have any experience with FM ... seen a lot of favorable reviews on here from guys who have used them, though ... both DIYers and a few who have been to their shop and had FM install ...

I DIY'd my big bore ... went pretty much all Screamin Eagle ... jugs, flat-top cast pistons, and SE MCR heads ... went with Andrews for the cams ... I think I ended up around 10:1 C/R ...

Definitely something I would do again in a "New York minute" ...

... sometimes wish I'd gotten 97" or 98" jugs/pistons ... a few extra cubes would have been nice, seeing as I was going to the trouble ...

... but, definitely no regrets ...

Go for it ...!

I have 10.5:1 and this is my daily rider. Planning a 1600 mile trip starting Sept. 1st.

I only have about 5k on my build but it runs great, and my builder has 2 guys with almost identical builds (although one of them has higher lift cams than I do) with over 50k on them with no issues thus far. I don't think 10.5:1 is that crazy to be honest, as long as you got all your ducks in a row with assembly and proper tuning.

That is good to know but I still feel better with less compression. Update us in a year or two. My other bike has 80K on it so far.

DON'T skimp out on the tune. I don't understand why so many people build these motors with this and that, big cams, head work and so on and then don't want to put out the coin to have it tuned. The tune should be cost factored into the build budget. JMHO
