Default Just my luck

Waited 2 weeks for my Short Shots for my 2012 FXDWG, and begin to install them. I was thirty seconds from being finished, and the last headbolt snapped. I followed the torque specs and all of the others were fine. So now I have to wait 2 weeks to have it fixed at Saint Paul Harley because of everyone getting there bikes done for Sturgis! What sucks worse is I had a trip planned for my 21st next week, and I'll be without my bike!

I would just get an easy out and do it myself. If you have the confidence of course. I haven't used them on a Harley, but I have used them on exhaust manifold bolts on engines I was rebuilding. Here's a little write up I found.

I probably could have done it, but my bike only has 3500 miles on it and I'd rather pay the 90 dollars to know it was done right. So in case something goes wrong, I know it wasn't me! I need a little more time around my bike before I attempt anything within the engine or near it.

Be not afraid and just go for it do it yourself. Buy a GOOD set of easy outs not HF specials and a good drill bit and a good center punch. take your time You can doo it.

No way I would use an easy out, one little mistake and it will break and you will then have a bigger problem.

Use a pointed center punch and punch a dimple in the center of the broken stud. Then use a left-handed drill bit 1/8" then a go a touch larger until the stud screws itself out.

It's a new bike. It will come out easy. Or call a couple shops and see how quick you can get it in. It doesn't have to be a HD shop.
