Default refinishing chrome

I have a set of SE exhausts in chrome and i am going to wrap the pipes from the system this weekend, does anybody know if the exhausts can be sanded down and refinished in black? any pointers would be appreciated. Is this something that can be done quite easily, as i donot want to ruin my existing exhausts if this is not possible by taking the wet and dry to them.

Default RE: refinishing chrome

I run my pipes chromed until the chrome gets oogly enough to bother me. Then I take 'em off, and hit 'em with some 180, then 240, then 320. Finally, I spray 'em with high heat paint, best is made by Briggs & Stratton, and slap 'em back on. My previous pipes ended up getting wrapped, except for the last few inches which I hit with the Exile pad.
