You're probably gonna hear about a gozillion different answers here..but I have the 88...and I rode a couple 07s at a dealer demo a few months back and didn't really notice a difference. Granted..I have the stage 1 kit...but all things being equal, I'd say it's a tough call...if the discount on the 06 is considerable, go for it....if not, then you might as well get the 07.
AS Veniculum, I've got an 88 and have ridden a 96 for a couple of hours. Didn't really notice that much difference in performance- it's only asmall increase in capacity. You could get the 88 and put the 96 A/C cover on - who would know? (All IMHO)
Never rode a 96 but from what I have been told the real diff is the tranny. The 6 speed is killer....I was also told you can upgrade the 5 spd but figure its for mucho deniro....
Okay, like Veniculum wroteâ You're probably gonna hear about a gozillion different answersâ and to make that true, hereâs mine ;-)
If you are reading carefully, you may notice that 88 stage 1 and stock 96 are about the same, âno big differenceâ. On the other hand if you search from this forum, the difference between 88 stock and 88 stage 1 is huge. So to be precise the difference between 88 stock and 96 stock is huge. Correct?
Also all the tests I have read are telling the same story; with the new gear box it is the whole new story and without exception a better one.
I think nobody knows about the resale value at this point.
What Iâm NOT telling here is that the older is bad. Older is good, but seems that the newer is even better. At least on paper the difference is huge ;-)

PS. To be honest, I got my 2007 SuperGlide Custom one month ago but the snow makes the situation a bit challenging ;-)
I run the Demo rides her in New Hamphire at Manchester HD. So I have riden pretty much all the new 07s. I own an 06 Street Bob. So I have put many many miles on several 07, and I really can not tell the differance. I would go for the lower priced 06. Use the money you save for other add on stuff.
My 2 cents is if I'd try to talked the dealer down to the point where you can get the 95ci upgrade I don't know if you know it but one of the many reasons they uped the ci on the 07's was to compensate for the further EPA controls.

Did they actually make the 6th gear on 2007s a real overdrive?
Tells us the price difference between the bikes and we'll give you a better idea on which is the better deal.
Right now in MN the dealers are knocking $1000.00 of the MSRP + $290 in freight. That would put a color optioned 2007 SG Custom OTD at $15,272. Our sales tax is 6.5%.
There are a number of 35th anniversary SG's out there and I can get one OTD for $14,500.00. To be fair, the MSRP on this 35th anneversary SG is over $17k.
Not a huge savings, but the 35th anniversary SG is a nice looking bike. I guess it's all personal prefference.
