Default FXDXT Bag Locks - Another Method

Inspired by the solution offered by LeatherPro, I decided to see if I could come up with what I consider to be a slightly cleaner method:

So instead of it being a lock that turns into place the plunger engages and keeps the bags from being removed?

Yes, the plunger locks in the extended position and blocks the bag mounting pin from sliding to the big end of the slot, where it needs to be to remove the bag.

The washer on the inside is tapped for the two screws. The locknuts could be removed, but it would be difficult to remove the screws. Even if you could get the screws off, the lock couldn't be pushed through the hole in the plastic, because the plate on the lock is right up against the end of the mounting pin.

Obviously, given enough time, tools and and persistence any lock can be defeated, but I'm confident that this will foil the casual passing opportunist.

Looks good and a little less degree of difficulty. Any chance you can write out a parts/price list and where you got all the items?

I'm not too sure about the less difficult part, you do need to remove the top 2 pop rivets in order to get the lock mounted. So you need a pop rivet tool that will work on 3/16" rivets. I have this one from Harbor Freight:

Locks from Amazon
Amazon Amazon

The red plastic band around the lock barrel is a cut-down Caplugs EC-12 that I had laying around. It fills the small gap between the lock barrel and washer hole.

Everything else from McMaster-Carr

92141A056
18-8 Stainless Steel General Purpose Flat Washer, 3/4" Screw Size, 1-3/4" OD, .09"-.12" Thick, packs of 10
per pack 5.96

97525A635
18-8 Stainless Steel Blind Rivet with 18-8 Stainless Steel Mandrel, Wide Domed, 3/16" Diameter, .126"-.25" Material Thickness, packs of 25
per pack 8.57

7377A44
Tamper-Resistant Torx Insert Bit, 1/4" Hex Shank, T10, 1" Length
each 3.86

91870A148
18-8 Stainless Steel Tamper-Resist Flat Head Machine Screw, Pin-in-Torx, 6-32 Thread, 1/2" Length, packs of 25
per pack 8.97

91831A007
18-8 Stainless Steel Nylon-Insert Hex Locknut, 6-32 Thread Size, 5/16" Width, 11/64" Height, packs of 100
per pack 4.88

I have enough of the hardware stuff left over to do 8 bags, PM me and we can probably work something out so you don't have to buy more than you need like I did.

Just out of curiosity, how did you come up with caplugs as a supplier?

I do packaging at my job and use them (and Essentra Components) but I was surprised to see them mentioned here...

Schwarz,

Looks good man. I always wanted to do something to get rid of that locking mech in the stock bags. I like the look of this. If you have any more kits, I'd be willing to get one from you.
