Been away for awhile, got new ride. So far, it's the best all around HD I've owned. Has everything I want except 2 things:
(1)Has highway pegs(factory?), but I'd like to get forward controls.
(2) Former owner "hogged" out the stock mufflers and had carb jetted at dealer. Sounds ok, but not like I'd like to hear. Need recommandations for a good fairly loud exhaust. Not straight pipes, just something better then hogged out stock mufflers. Would like to get slip on mufflers.
Best place to buy? Best quality?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Generally seems to be Vance and Hines (most of the pics I see, and I have em too)...they do have a few slip-on styles. Just have to find the style you like. And I think they make forward controls as well, had some on my old metric.
I see lots of Vance and Hines myself. With "removable" baffles? Long Shot, Short Shot, but I prefer the satggered shots if there is such a thing.
Put 150 or so miles on it yesterday and didn't mind the lack of forward controls. The highway pegs were fine once you get out of traffic.
So the exhaust has priority for now.
Anything to check on the engine? It has 28k on it. Runs excellent.
Anyone have Screaming Eagle II mufllers on? Harley doesn't sell 'em anymore(says obsolete), but I found a NOS set at a dealer about an hour away from me.
Was wondering about the sound. I figure they won't be like straight pipes but I do want some noise.
Harley Davidson recommends the cam tensioners on TC88 are checked/adjusted every 20,000 mi. this is something a lot of people overlook. Up to you if you decide to take it somewhere and have them checked or do it yourself. Its pretty easy to do and some people say it doesnt need to be done but its up to you. I converted my TC 88 to gear drive cams from S&S so i never need to worry about tensioners again hope this helps
