I made up my mind I'm pulling off my HD drag bars and putting on some 16" RSD vintage king apes. But I have some questions about them, How long should I extend the wires and brake line? also how hard is it to do this stuff alone? I dont want to get into a project that I cant finish myself, how long should I expect everthing to take?
Also does anyone have any pics of a Wide Glide with 16 king apes? I did some searching but didnt find a hole lot of photos.
i want to do this over the winter after i get out of the corps and move home...hard to ride in the Va winter. Hope you can post pictures to make it easier when i do mine.
I've had the dealer and an Indy quote me a labor estimate....$400-500. That just seems too high to not do it yourself. Now, I don't have all the tools (I've got the basic toolbox stuff).
What I want to know, what special tools will I need? I assume the first is the heat gun for shrinking the plastic for the wiring. What about the brakes? Anything else?
Its pretty easy actually. I have a 2012 fat bob i just put sixteens on. Nobody makes a kit so i had to custom measure and order which wasnt very hard. One weekend should do the trick as long as you have everything you need. Ill be posting pictures soon for the whole project but heat gun and soldering iron is all you should really need. Oh and a string for running the wires through the bars.

$400-$500 is about right if you pay for the job, it is a time consuming install since the bars are internal wired. That is what takes majority of the labor time, the rest is just pulling and replacing on the new bars, etc.
