Recently bought an 08 FXDF with an HD 103 kit, HD 254E cams and a V&H 2-1 Big Radius pipe. I actually like the looks of the stock exhaust and picked a complete system with SE mufflers up at a swap meet; I see there is NO catalyst in the pipes; is this stock or a certain year? The vendor claims it's off an 08 (Canadian). What about performance and sound with the stock header and aftermarket slip-ons? The V&H did not do well on the dyno...any suggestions?
From what I understand, '09 was the last year the Tommy Gun pipe did not have a Cat in the collector- pull the lower muffler and shine a flashlight into the collector on the pipes you bought, you can see whether or not there is a Cat in there, if there is you have some options. I'd start by taking the head pipe to muffler shop and seeing how much they want to cut the cat out and re-weld- or you cut the pipe and gut the Cat and have them re-weld, or hell, maybe you can weld?
Even with slip-ons the stock system will be pretty quiet. Any full system 2-1 should run rings around it on the Dyno. You didn't list a high flow AC or fuel management system in your parts. With a cam and pipe, those should help get you Dyno numbers. Also, I thought the 254E was a touring cam. Are you sure that power curve is what you're looking for?
SE A/C and just had SEPST installed and dyno'd; no improvement felt over the fuel pack that was on the bike as bought...the pipes came with SE mufflers but I'm sure they would still be "compliant" and offer little performance benefit...being used to my "other" 103 (01 FXDXT, 111hp/117ft lbs in a 600lb bike) the performance of this FXDF is not too exciting. Maybe better exhaust and a cam change will help a bit; don't want to go quite as far with the motor work as I did on my other 103.
If you had the stock FXDF mufflers, be pretty easy to re-baffle them with the Cycle Shack Screaming Eagle replacement baffles, ie the thread linked to below, and given that they are Screaming Eagle replacements, might even work in the mufflers you got with the pipes. They are pretty loud, and should give you a boost in performance with the the Tommy Guns. Doing this next week myself on a '12 Tommy Gun pipe I picked up for $50 bucks, just gotta de-cat the pipe first, and then find the right adapter to make 15" baffles I'm currently running in my SB mufflers work in the longer FXDF cans.
Hey Joe; yeah still got the T-Sport...pretty limited market for a bike like that...someone wants it but I want cash they don't have...won't bother me to keep it; then I won't have to $pend much on the 'Bob...
