Default 2000 fxd air cleaner

I have the stage 1 SE air cleaner kit on my bike; which is the oval shaped filter, with the oval cover on the outside. I was wondering if I could install the round version instead with the circular number 1 skull cleaner cover. This version has the outside of the filter exposed. I have seen them on newer dynas. The harley catalog says the circular cover will fit any twincam engine with original/se air cleaner....but the cover is round with 5 bolts, and my filter is oval shaped. I dont want to use the the stock oval cover with the round center piece, just the filter with round center piece on the end. Is this possible? Will I have to get a new backing plate as well as the filter?

I have done this. There is a little adapter that goes from the one bolt to the 5 smaller Allen screws...

Wow, just did some quick searching with K&N and seems the HD-0800 filter is still listed. But you need to buy the round backing plate that used to be the standard SE intake kit. You are in luck, I just found an old SE catalog, here's an old part number for the SE kit, 29440-99B. Maybe a dealer can help you out, if not I'm sure Arlen Ness would.

Speaking or Arlen Ness. I have some Rush slip ons that I had installed before leaving the dealership. I'm considering the AN Big Sucker stage 1 at this point. I'm assuming I would need to have my engine tuned after the addition. Could the engine be damaged if I installed and rode to my dealership for the tune? It's about 20 miles.

So I will definitely have to change out the backing plate and the filter from the oval style to the round style to make this work? Are there any drawbacks from changing the oval style filter to the smaller round filter?
