A friend of mine has a 2012 fat bob with black trees, he is changing them out this winter for a set of chrome trees. I had on the agenda to PC my stock trees this winter as well, but with him pulling his it has made my brain start running with the idea of doing the wide glide front. So I guess I can start with my questions I need answered because I have heard different answers from different people who just aren't that versed with different models.
1. 06 FXDL.....Do I have 41 or 49mm tubes, and are they the same size as a fat bob.
2. I know I need a longer axle and some sort of spacer for my front wheel, where is the best place for this?
3. other than the Trees and Axle/spacers, what other misc parts do I need? (I actually have a fat bob front fender that I was getting ready to modify to fit my larger wheel).
2. Yes, you will need a different axle...one from an '06 or '07 Wide Glide will work. You will also have to get longer wheel spacers and will have to space your rotor off the hub. Hawg Halters makes a kit for stock wheels but I'm not sure if it will work with your Hogpro wheel, best to talk to them about it.
3. You shouldn't need anything else besides the trees, axle, and spacers.
4. Fat Bob trees have no rake. I think the '06 Low Rider had some rake in the trees so it may change the rake for you...not sure.
The other thing is that if you install the FB trees and space up the wheel the stock FB fender will also need to be modified if you keep your stock sliders as the mounts are different than a LR.........just go whole hog and do a dual disc conversion with a new wheel - it stops WAY better.
Yes, you need a wide glide or fat bob axle, I got mine from M&M cycles and you need spacers for axle, disc rotor and fender. I machined my own. Get your fork lowers powder coated black while your doing this as it really completes the mod.
Just keep in mind that you are in the 1 inch axle time frame (2006-07). Everything after that is 25mm (.98 inch). Either axle will fit your forks, just make sure it fits your bearings. Electra Glide axles (what I used) will also fit. As stated earlier, the Fat Bob mounting hole pattern is slightly different than your fork sliders and will need to be modified (filled and re-drilled)

Having the Hogpro wheel was one of my concerns, I do need to call them about this issue as well. I thought the rake on bob trees was 0, another concern as I already went from a 19" to 21" front wheel, thinking reducing the rake further would be bad.

I was already planning on modding the fender to fit my sliders so I expected this But I am not doing a dual disc conversion, a new wheel is out of the question when I just put the hog pro wheel on this spring.

I would have to purchase the spacers, need to talk to hogpro before I do though, I just did the lowers in chrome, I just want to do black trees to add a little more tie in and contrast to the front.

I will be interested if I decide to take the plunge.
Ok, now seeing that there is no rake in the fat bob trees, and that would be a bad thing, what about FXDWG trees, I believe they do have some rake as well correct?
I think the Low Rider trees only had about a 1.5deg rake. The Super Glides and Street Bob trees don't have any extra rake, and there's plenty of guys on here (myself included) who run 21" wheels on the front with no additional rake.
The difference in wheelbase from a Low Rider to a Super Glide is only 0.4", which I'm assuming is because of the different trees. So switching to Fat Bob trees should move your front axle back less than 1/2".
