2008 superglide K&N air filter, rush slipons, xieds runs well except for a very minimal surge at 10to20 mph being 69 years old I"m not looking for crotch rocket performance, but would like to make the bike run right, and make the surge go away .thinking the fuelpak would be the easyest and cheapest way to go,they have a map for this system. would like to know if anyone has this setup and how it performs,
it's going to run you about 500 bucks to have it run like it should. The fuelpack may be a tad better (or a tad worse) why keep spending money on parts that make it a little better. Just run the XEID's until you have 500 bucks then we'll talk...
It's not just about getting the most horsepower out of your bike....A well tuned bike will just cruise so much better, night and day difference. I also find I use 6th gear more now.
I would think that a well tuned bike will last longer but that is just my opnion
when you talk about well tuned are you talking dino time,I know that makes a difference ,but not planing to make that many mods trying to keep it as simple as possible
I just did a simple stage one but did have it dyno tuned because I found one of the best tuners around just 10 miles from my home. I too had slight surging that really bugged me and I really couldn't use 6th gear unless I was going at least 70-75 without lugging it. The overall driveability of the bike is night and day. For that one reason it was worth every penny. Let alone, he squeezed 80 hp out of my stock motor.
There are some great tuners on the market. If you like to tinker yourself, look into the TTS. Many people here are tuning it themselves...it's more user freindly then the sertpro. Another option, if you find the right dyno operator, dynovision has a deal where you can "use" the dyno tuners tuner and pay a one time license fee of $150.
You py the operator 300 bucks to dial it in and for total of 500 bucks you have a bike that bike that runs at its best.

Your current set up is what I was running, I installed a Fuel pac about a month ago in about 90 min incl the programing, which is current on their web site. Bike runs better and cooler. Many posts on fuel pak's. Mostly good posts and some riders can never get the right tune. V&H suggests the fuel pak runs well with the XIEDS, and mine runs well.
I have been running the FuelPak for quite a while now. Not the same setup, not using Xieds either. It was running good and then I added SE255 cams. Now it runs GREAT! V&H had a map that included all of my mods. People said it would not work or run like crap. It is not worth Dyno'ing, but there is no popping or pinging and it goes like HE double hockey sticks.. I can keep up to my buddies Rocker C with a tuned full blown 103.

Skip the fuelpak, and get a Dobeck Gen 3- really simple plug-play, includes O2 eliminators so your bike will run open loop all the time. No more surging- 'cause it ain't really lean surging, it's the ECU 'hunting' for the AFR ratio the bike is chained to in closed loop operation. That's why you still notice the surging with the XiEDs. I had ViEDS, stock drove me nuts, you couldn't cruise, bike only ran good with a lot of throttle input, ie in open loop. ViEDS helped, but also noticed still some 'surging' and way too much fuel in places like de-accel and idle. The Dobeck has been great for me so far for 5K- if you read around on the net, won't find very many peeps bitchin' 'bout the GEN3, which you sure can't say about the fuelpak- GEN3 is also less money. And oh yeah, piggy back really is not the way to go, but if yer going there, far better to go with a unit that does not hook into the ECU- GEN3 just plugs into the injectors&ground wire to negative batt terminal- does not affect ECU in any way or throw any codes- which the XiEDs/ViEDs do constantly.

Jo, me personally I would stay away from the fuelpak. I know some here have had a good experience with it, but I'm not one of them. Proud of you for still riding at 69, I'm nearly 64, but in my opinion the best way to go is to get the SEPST and have it dynoed in. I did on mine and my dyno numbers are in my sig. The bike runs great and no surging and a lot more power and torque. Like Rooti said, can run more often in sixth gear now.
The great part about fuelpak is you can get them for $100 all the time on ebay or on here. I ran one for a couple of years, it was great. On a mostly stock or stage 1, I think it is a great little unit.
I would not buy one new, dollar for dollar there are better options. However, used prices it is the way to go. Many people want to tinker with everything, so they find a reason to sale thier fuelpak and get something they can tinker with.
I have an 06 model, so when I did my bigbore and cams, I went with a ThunderMax tuner. It is awesome, but they are about $800. A stock motor is not worth an $800 tuner or a dyno tune.
