frame replacement
I can pick up a 05 low rider for a fair price that has a salvage title. What I would like to know is what years and or other model frames could I use to rebuild it so I can get a clean title?
a new frame wont get you a clean title unless it comes with a title for another bike.most clean titled bikes don't get parted out. it is illegal for a business to sell you a frame with a title. they can sell to another business, but not a regular person. all that comes with a frame is usually a bill of sale or MSO(then you get a homebuilt title). once a vehicle gets a salvage, or rebuilt title, it pretty much stays that way forever.

Check your state laws. In Missouri it is legal to buy and sell frames as long as you have the title as the frame is what the title goes with. In MO. when swapping parts that have stamped numbers like forks, engines, trans you need titles for the bike the parts came from or notorized bill of sale and photo copy of the front and back of title showing the person you bought the parts from was the legal owner of the parts. We also have to go through a Highway Patrol inspection were they run the #bike to make sure no parts are stolen. Keep the paperwork from the DMV with the bike when traveling or attending a rally so you have documentation proving it is all legal otherwise if they check and #the don't match you will have to produce them to get your bike back.

Does it need a new frame? otherwise just fix it up the way you want it and don't worry about the title being clear. Bike with a salvage title will ride just as nice as one with a clear title, you just didn't pay as much to get there.........
And how do you get plates for it?
Thanks for all the replies. A frame with a good title is the way I was thinking about going. Right now I'm riding a sporty and have it looking good and running strong. How is the power with the 96ci. injected motors it has a stage 1 upgrade?
Are you talking about a aftermarket frame? You should talk to your insurance agent for a quote.

when you part a vehicle out, you are required to surrender the title to the state. even though the title matches the frame, it is considered fraud to use a title on a bike where every single part except for the frame came from another title. its just like swapping vin plates on a car.. in reality, you can get away with it if you can find a titled frame from a private seller. the last used softail frame i saw for sale with a title was $3k
with a new aftermarket frame, with a MSO. the price is about the same as a used stock frame, maybe cheaper. you can use the salvage bike for parts, then get a clear homebuilt/custom title, some people look at them better then a salvage title.
what is wrong with the original frame? the easiest thing would be to just fix it and get it inspected for a rebuilt title, my 01eg and my f350 both have rebuilt titles.they run as good or better then a vehicle 2-3x as much money.. my EG had half the frame replaced, cost was $150 and all the numbers still match.

It was hit while setting at a stop light and pushed into the car in front of it. He replaced the forks, swing arm, wheels and new tins were needed. What I was looking at is when looking at it from behind the rear fender looks like its to the left and twisted down. Other than that it don't look too bad.
