So from that link it is NOT a sealed tunnel. Now I'm confused.
I'll look over the install instructions that came with the kit and see if they address this issue.

It was dry until 6 months after the forward were put in. My thought was the leak came because nothing was keeping the $.99 gasket in place.
My suspicions were confirmed when I tore the primary apart.
Now my question - if I put it back together won't the leak just start again?
Is there a decorative bolt that could fill that hole??

I used a chrome carriage bolt http://www.chromebolt.com/51618-x-134-chrome-carriage-bolt-p-845.html, and put a two inch piece of rubber hose on the threads then added some shrink sleeving on the hose to get a nice snug press fit into the empty shaft hole. If you have a black primary: Paint a unplated carriage bolt. Aluminum cover: Scotch brite a chrome carriage bolt.
You might want to consider leaving the shaft in place until you are sure you really want the forward controls. Also, HD offers a cover that is normally used by folks that take the heel shifter off to cover the shifter shaft. It works great to cover the mid control shaft, you can snug it up and the linkage does not flop around and it looks pretty good. You never know, your might sell your scooter to someone in the future that likes mids. Just a thought.
