I have a leak in my primary where the mid-controls were (I put on forward controls)
It was dry until 6 months after the forward were put in. My thought was the leak came because nothing was keeping the $.99 gasket in place.
My suspicions were confirmed when I tore the primary apart.
Now my question - if I put it back together won't the leak just start again?
Is there a decorative bolt that could fill that hole??
On the inner primary there is a plug you can buy to plug the shifter hole all that you need to do is remove primary cover and install the plug, as for the primary cover just install an inspection cover without the shifter hole
Had the same issue and the plug I used leaked too. I replaced th eouter primary with a fwd control one, chrome too. Bit expensive, but way better look.

I did the below five years ago, and haven't had any leaks.
Cover for the original shift shaft lever hole
I used a chrome carriage bolt http://www.chromebolt.com/51618-x-134-chrome-carriage-bolt-p-845.html, and put a two inch piece of rubber hose on the threads then added some shrink sleeving on the hose to get a nice snug press fit into the empty shaft hole. If you have a black primary: Paint a unplated carriage bolt. Aluminum cover: Scotch brite a chrome carriage bolt.
Mine came with forwards and no bolt in that hole. No leaks until the day I took the cover off to paint it then put on a new gasket. Then it started leaking. I went to Harley and looked up the bolt that would normally hold the mid control on. I bought that, installed it, and tightened it down with a little bit of threadlock. No more leak.
i put forward controls on mine myself too. it started leaking after about 2500 miles. if you looked in the hole you could see the gasket wasnt centered anymore. possibly vibrated out of position? if memory serves me correct is was centered when i installed it. new primary gasket and little washer looking gasket later all ok since.
Has anyone thought about 3D printing a cap/plug to fill that hole so it won't leak? It could be made out of TPU (squishy material that seals/gaskets are made from), or like the one that goes on the inside of the primary, it could be made out of PETG material (hard plastic, UV resistant) with o-rings to seal it. I may be able to design it, but I would need all the specifications to put into a CAD program to make it. If someone else has CAD skills, they could probably do it better. Just wondering if anyone else has found or made something like that with a 3D printer?
