I'm 6'5" with a 34" - 36" instead, I can manage just fine with the mids. But forwards will be more comfortable. If I sell it, which I probably won't, the buyer can fix it how he wants.
As for the link posted I did read it, but I have had more people tell me I should be good then those that posted in that thread. If it was something that was for sure to happen then I wouldn't have an issue adding a part.
And I have no problems fixing utility later.
Only other leak i ever had was when the tower gasket moved out of position, which was a simple enough fix....You think its coincidence that this one has developed so soon after the inner primary work?

I could have just used a wooden dowel to keep in from slipping. Then I scored a compleate "New" engine chrome kit on ebay for a Rocker for $217 shipped & pluged the hole

Only 2 small issues in 4 years...had to replace the tower gasket on the primary that seals the opening for the mid controls when it was switched to forward controls cuz it had slid down and was leaking,
and had to replace a turn signal that had a bum threaded connection on it.
Seems pretty minor and acceptable to me.
I keep the bike clean, change the fluids frequently, and go over the fasteners to check for snuggness whenever I have my tools out.
I have the manual, and do my own maintenance.
If you maintain something well, it has a better chance of lasting, I am thinking.

My bike has had forward controls since I bought it last year with 19,000 miles. I read that it could start to leak if the breather gets plugged or not venting properly but I am not sure where that is in the primary. the only thing i have done in the primary and I replaced the clutch plate that the clutch adjuster bolt and lock nut threads into because the threads were stripped on it which caused my clutch to back out. Plus I had on over 800 miles since fixing it so I don't think its related.
The problem is I am going to sturgis next week and I don't wont an oil leak or have to worry about bringing extra oil. I am just not sure why it started happening. I am just concerned if it builds pressure and that's why its leaking. or I wonder if theirs a seal or gasket that moved that's causing it to leak. Maybe I will be fine to put some silcone or high temp gasket maker on the cap where the shifter used to be. I just dont know if it will hold the 2000 - 3000 mile total ride during sturgis.
What should I do. Should I pull my whole primary off when I change the oil and check the gasket in the old shifter shaft and hopefully fix it properly, or should i just try some silcome where the leak is to be me buy and fix it after sturgis? I am leaving next tuesday. Has anyone else had this problem with their dynas? Below is a picture of another bike with the same problem. I did not take a picture when mine was leaking this much after a 250 mile ride. Its a very slow leak anyway.
I still have to say that there are not many that have this leak. Searching just pulled up the handful quoted. So imo it seems like a very long shot to have a leak.
When i did my forwards i replaced the inner and outer primaries with wide glide ones. Due to being extreemely **** i couldnt live with the hole and plug for the mids. Expensive way to go but worth it to me
I'll mostlikey take my time doing this so I can get a bolt that matches the stock shifter shaft. Some o rings on each side might help.
Thanks again.

You can do what ever you want, eliminate a potential problem, or have it pop up at an inappropriate time. You don't need a carriage bolt, just something to keep the gasket from moving out of place over time. I used a rubber hose, shrink sleeving, and a chrome carriage bolt because I installed a 2005 and earlier kit on my 2006 Low Rider. The 2005 and earlier kits don't come with a cover for the empty hole, they leave the original shift lever in place and give you chrome cap that goes on the splines where your original shift lever mounted to.

You do not get a plug for the inter primary.. I went to Autozone and bought a freeze plug (Trust me they have them this small) and installed that in the inter primary (Use and extention to tap it all the way in, do not force it when it stops). Then in your kit you will find a small gasket, what they want you to do is place that gasket between outer/inter primary, I did this using my old shift Rod (I hack sawed the old shift rod.. that was a nightmare!!!!! but there is just enough room in the back to reach it (my bike was on a jack that helped alot) just using the blade. Make sure you pull the shifter rod out as far as you can before you start cutting, this will allow you to remove the rest of the rod out of the back when your done cutting. also use vise grips to hold the rod in place while cutting or it will move back and forth when cutting) I inserted the shift rod through the outer primary, put that gasket on and cafully allined the outer to inter primary bolted it together. trust me if you are going to remove your shifter rod, with out that gasket IT WILL LEAK out of the back of the primary. you will have oil all over your kick stand.
Your right you do not have to plug the Shaft Hole, However you need to install the gasket that comes with the kit or it WILL LEAK!! Trust me, I went to Auto zone and bought a freeze plug, (They have them this small) and taped that in the inter primary using an extention. I then used the old shaft rod (That I hack sawed!! that was a pain in the ***!!!!) to center the gasket on while I intalled the outer primary. I have had no leakes other that the cheep outer primary plug, it seeps every now and then.

I finished the install. Used the stock gasket as the new one was messed up. Few hundred miles and no leaks yet.
After looking at it there are a few easy things to fix it if it ever does leak.
I might mess with it when I get my lift.
