Default Went down last night

My wife and I were leaving a local restaurant with a group and the rider in front of us for some reason stopped after taking off. I don't know if she missed a shift or why she stopped so suddenly. I have not spoken with her as I was to upset and she did not have a clue we went down and continued on to our destination to Bike Nite in Fort Pierce, FL. I could not stop in time so I tried to just go past her on the right because she was on the left side of the lane but when she started off again she came over to the right (breaking rules of group riding) and leaving me no option but either hit her or to hit the brakes hard and since I was turning right leaving out of the restaurant parking lot we tipped and went down. I could have kept it up if I was alone but not with the added weight of my wife on the back so down we went.

With help from the rest of our club we got my 2011 Dyna off the ground dusted off got back on that horse and continued on up to Bike nite. I was as angry with myself as I was with her since I knew she was a tenuous rider on a big Honda 750 Shadow and should have allowed more room before taking off behind her. My wife even said try not to get behind her before we left but I was next in line.

Thank god I had just gotten engine guards because we tipped to the right on the same side of my hot pipes and my wife would have been trapped under them. The engine guard took most of the damage. Luckily I bought the black guards since I already have enough chrome to keep polished so I can just touch it up for now. My windshield has about 6 scrapes so I ordered a new Memphis Shades 17" replacement. My rear turn signal got a small scrape and the lens popped off. I just popped it back on. My front right mirror bent but I was able to bend it back and my front master cylinder has a few scrapes on it which I also touched up. My Screaming Eagle pipes have a couple light scratches so I was very lucky there. All in all not to bad so no reason to post pics. BTW the gas cap did leak a little when it was down. Is this normal? I have a recall notice but don't really want to take it in since it hasn't leaked after filling it up before this.

Most of all I am thankful that neither of us were injured. It was getting cool so my wife had just put her Harley jacket on and we both wear helmets, boots and jeans. I had a Tee shirt on a got 2 small scrapes on my elbow that did not even bleed. Luck was with us for sure! Oh well you know what they say after you get those first few scrapes on it you can really enjoy and not worry so much about it.
Ride On!

Glad your both OK and bike came out with just a scrape or two. My biggest fear of 2up riding is having my wife get hurt and I'm ok.

glad your ok... i always ride in the back of the pack i have seen this same thing happen over and over man you are not the only one... better to be behind them honestly than in front! i have seen new riders slam into groups of guys in front of them or get nervous riding in groups and wash out taking others with them... glad you had the engine guard on there man! they work!!!
if you want to pull that off we can fill all the scratches in it and coat that for you

Glad you both are OK.

Bars were the first thing I did.

I am a fairly new rider and my friends have told me “if you’re going to get it, it will be in a group”.

Have been on 5 rides now and I always stay in the back. My fear has been exactly that, I would make a stupid mistake and take someone else out. So far so good, I do a lot of practice, thinking and reading about safe riding. I am sure I don’t qualify as a good / safe rider yet but do plan on being one someday.

"Wife" and "Went Down" thought this string was going a much diferent direction. You should call it what it is ...you crashed last night.
