Default Apes Info Needed on 07 Wide Glide

I would like to replace the mini apes on my 07 Wide Glide. I love the look and feel of these factory mini apes, but would like them just a couple inches taller.

If I wanted the exact same look and feel as the apes that I have, only a couple inches taller, what would I need? Who makes those?

Anyone have suggestions? If anyone has made this same change, were the wires/cables long enough? I believe the mini apes are 10" and I'd like to go with either 12" or 14".

These are the best pics I have that show the current OEM bars.

I have the same bike and bars as you do, and am looking into doing the same thing this winter. Mine are cracking between the clamp, that and I would like something a little taller. I was thinking about going with this kit in the 14" version.

http://www.hillcountrycustomcycles.c...6-in-P391.aspx

Only thing about these bars is that they reduce to 1" at the clamp, which means I would have to swap the clamp out. I've searched for bars that ran 1 1/4" all the way through (except the bar ends), but haven't come up with much.

Would be interested to see what others say as well.

Check out L.a. Chopper handle bars they are 1 1/4 so you can use factory riser. They come in both 12 and 14 and look alot like the factory bars.

Thanks O Leary, those are just what I've been looking for. You probably saved me countless hours of searching.

From my measurements these bars compare in measurements...
Stock pull back- 9.25"
LA Choppers pull back- 10.5"

Stock center width- 9.125"
LA Choppers center width- 10.5"

Stock width- 34"
LA Choppers center width- 39.5"

There's a recall for that.

M-1201 1 of 3
SERVICE BULLETIN
M-1201 Safety Recall Code 0127 January 12, 2007
2006-2007 DYNA WIDE GLIDE HANDLEBAR RECALL
Purpose
Harley-Davidson has determined that a condition affecting
motor vehicle safety exists on certain 2006 FXDWGI and
2007 FXDWG motorcycles. These vehicles have internally
wired handlebars which have a potential to crack at the hole
where the wires exit the handlebars between the handlebar
clamps.
Should these cracks progress to the point of breaking
the handlebar into two pieces, a loss of control could
result, which could cause an accident leading to injury or
death to the rider.
In the interest of motor vehicle safety and customer satisfaction,
Harley-Davidson has elected to initiate a voluntary recall
(Campaign 0127) to replace the handlebar. You may sell but
not deliver
any affected motorcycles to your customers until
the remedy is completed.
Motorcycles Affected
This recall applies to 2006 FXDWGI and 2007 FXDWG
motorcycles built from June 17, 2005 to December 4, 2006. A
VIN list specific to vehicles shipped to your dealership is
available via h-dnet.com and is no longer attached to mailed
bulletins. This list may be found by following this path:
h-dnet.com/Service/Safety Campaign and Product Campaign/
Safety Campaign and Open VIN lists. Select 0127
campaign to view VIN list.
NOTE
If the vehicle does not appear on your dealer VIN list, refer to
Safety and Product Campaign History by VIN link to verify if
vehicle is affected.
Customer Notification
In accordance with Federal regulations administrated by
NHTSA, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. will provide
notice to all owners of record of affected products with direction
to bring the vehicle in for the recall service.
To protect the safety of our riders, it is our mutual responsibility
to ensure the recall service is performed on all affected
motorcycles. Therefore, we strongly urge you to perform the
recall service even if the motorcycle was not purchased from
your dealership.
You are also required to perform the recall service on all
affected vehicles in your dealership inventory prior to delivering,
renting or leasing those vehicles.
If you are not sure that a safety recall has been completed on
a particular motorcycle, check the recall records available on
TALON and h-dnet.com.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Because only registered owners will receive notification
from us, we request that you contact any owners of vehicles
that your records show as unregistered. Advise
them of the safety recall and make arrangements for
them to come in for recall service. We also require that
you provide us with their names, addresses and V.I.N.s
as soon as possible to enable us to mail them an owner’s
letter, as required by the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle
Safety Act (as amended).
Kit Ordering Information
Initial wave shipments of replacement parts (Part No. 94506)
will be made the week of January 22, 2007.
If additional kits are needed, fill in the attached order form
and fax it to the Warranty department at 414-343-8346. You
must include your dealer number.
NOTE
No kit orders will be accepted prior to the termination of the
wave shipment date. Orders received prior to the termination
of the wave shipments
will be discarded
. Termination notice
will be sent.
IMPORTANT NOTE
In the interest of preserving customer safety and satisfaction, always check for outstanding recalls whenever any motorcycle is brought into your
dealership for either maintenance or service.
