It's the bearing in the ramp, the retainer clip is there yes, but the bearings will still fall out. I know this because it has happened to me.
Take the cover off and look to see, I'd bet that's your problem.
There is a possibility that the retaining nut on the end of the transmission shaft has backed off and the clutch basket has ridden out on the shaft ... this could cause the clutch hub to round the splines ...
This has actually happened to me ... not a cheap fix either ...
Hope this is not the problem, but I had chased all of the solutions as well without success ... good luck ... hope it is not too expensive ...
The first time I adjusted a clutch I had the same problem. Seems I overlooked the part in the book where it said to hold the adjuster while you tighten the jam nut. When I tightened the jam nut it range in the adjuster as well. Then, no clutch.

Does not take much to get this adjustment off down on clutch or cable adjuster length. Especially for first time. Seen my son do it, start it and it raked trying to go into gear. Started it in gear figuring it would free up and it shot out garage door.
One note since you are down at clutch. I always just tighten with small wrench but few people on here after holding adjuster screw and snugging lock nut take allen wrench out and torque the locknut the inch-lb torque as mentioned in my above post.
I picked the bike up from the dealer this evening..... the cause of the problem, I took the derby cover off to adjust the clutch, backed off the jamb nut and then turned back the adjusting bolt till almost out..........then for god knows why I went to the clutch cable and backed off the locking nut and let the cable slack out ..this is where I screwed things up, by not doing the cable first... they charged me $85.00 to put it all back together
