I'm considering a street bob, my first motorcyle in more years than I care to remember. Most of my riding will be local, but I'd like to take an occasional short trip. I'd like to hear what the group thinks of Dyna's for touring. Are theyat least decent highway bikes? What do you think of the mini-apes as far as being a comfortable riding position?
I sure like the look of Dynas!!
==============================================
I'm on my second Dyna with a Road Glide in between. That big RG was purchased with a specific trip in mind, a 5300 miles one month cross country from Denver to the East coast. I've done numerous trips on both Dynas, all over Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and California, the latest a tour, from Denver, of the national parks in Utah, did just a bit short of 2k in five days. I ride solo, and with proper packing it was done with saddle bags and one day bag bungeed to my luggage rack. With a bunch of trips under my butt I've learned that the Dyna will do whatever you ask them to do! Learn to pack light, take only what is nescessary. If you've got any questions, drop me an "E" and I'll be happy to share my experiences with you.
I agree with the others. I've done 4 trips on mine and I'm very happy with my bob. Sure the tour bikes are better on a trip, but who wants to wrestle a bagger around town all the time? An occasional trip on the dyna will be plenty comfortable. Just learn to pack light!
If you're planning on carrying a passenger, it's the passenger's comfort that you need to focus on.
I think thatâs the biggest reason to buy Ultra Classic. With the passenger and lots of stuff the Ultra is your way to go. Otherwise itâs a way too heavy to be comfortable (IMHO). Dyna, at my opinion is the best all-around bike.
Just get the Dyna and the Electraglide!!! Like me!!!
Seriously the Dyna is probably the more flexible and versatile of the both, lock and load when required and then strip if off when you get home, whereas the electra is fully loaded all the time with all the bell and whistles.
I do have both bikes an 07 bob and an 04 CVO FLHTSE, both are good at what they do but the bob is the most versatile!

it's just as good as most bikes and better than others.i have made a couple of 3and 400 miles trips with mine 2up and no problem.i got bags and a windshield . yes i have been in the rain too.they handel great .rain or shine.
Thanks for all the responses guys! I feel much better about buying the street bob after hearing what you had to say. Like I said in my original post, I think most of my riding will be local. It's good to know, though, that with some modifications, the street bob will tour as well.
